How to wear and Size Guide

Hold Close Merino Baby Slings are made to fit the wearer. It should be close fitting to ensure babe stays snug and secure.

Hold Close Merino Baby Slings are made to wear with the Merino as the inner. This ensures maximum comfort for your babe. (To make use of the Merino’s thermo-regulating qualities. Ask us for more information if required.) However the wearer may choose to wear with the sling reversed for a different look.

The purpose of the sling is to support the wearer while carrying babe. In no case should wearer discontinue one regular arm support under babe. Wearer should regularly check babe’s position.

Cradle Hold (Newborn)

1. Place Sling over head and rest on opposite shoulder, as if wearing a sash.
2. Ensure the curved seam is at the bottom, this is where babe will rest.
3. With Sling on non-dominant shoulder, gently rest babe in the pouch.
(Adjust until both of you are comfortable and babe is snug.)
4. Turn fabric over shoulder to expose Merino lining. This distributes weight evenly over your back.

Hip Carry/Front hold (When babe can hold head up)

1. Place Sling over head and rest on opposite shoulder, as if wearing a sash.
2. For this hold, wear on dominant shoulder.
3. Place babe up on your shoulder and slide into pouch.
4. Babes legs can be inside or outside of sling.
5. Turn fabric over shoulder to expose the Merino lining. This distributes weight evenly over your back.
6. Nestling advises wearer to maintain one arm underneath babe.

Wearer is ready to go when...

• Babe is in line with or above the hip.
• Babe is comfortable and so are you.
• Babe is secure, supported and close to you.

Safety

• The wearer is responsible for the child’s safety at all times.

• Recommended for babies up to 10 kg. Wearer may decide to use for heavier weights depending on both his/her and babe’s comfort.

• Some wearers prefer maintaining both arms under babe until they feel confident using sling. Nestling advises the wearer to maintain at least one arm under babe at all times.

• Ensure that both sides of your sling are pulled up and out to support babe in cradle hold at all times.

• When bending down or forward and always bend at the knees to maintain balance and hold babe with your arms.

• Ensure that babe can breathe properly at all times.

• Keep away from any hazards, do not use when cooking. Never drink hot drinks while holding babe.

• This Sling is not a substitute for a car seat.

• Check with Flight Attendants before using sling in an aircraft.

• Despite all the attention and quality control carried out at Nestling, the wearer should check that all seams are firm before use. The wearer should also check seams on a regular basis (after washing for example).

• It is the users responsibility to follow the instructions for use and care and to use the Sling sensibly and for the purpose provided. Nestling is not responsible or liable for the result of any misuse or failure to follow instructions or use common sense.

" Julie

"What is really practical is that i can bring it everywhere, even when I'm not using it as it doesn't take anymore place than a scarf in my bag, not at all like other babyslings!

A big thank you for the babysling, it is really really great! When she is upset, has a sore tummy or when she cant sleep, I put her in, she moves around a little and then quietly calms down..and me, I can continue going about my things, all while looking at her peacefully...it's really comfortable!"
Child offers a timeless collection of baby and children’s products all chosen because of their simple yet stylish design principles. Nestling 'Hold Close Merino' Baby Slings are the latest addition to this beautiful store.

"The parcel arrived two days into contractions and really cheered me up - for a few minutes at least! It has been much admired by all my family. We used our Hold Close Merino Sling on a little trip out to the park on Saturday and Torin certainly loved it, he slept for hours - even through the trip to the pub for refreshment. I think I will be using it a lot." Ondrée xx United Kingdom

Playing music to baby

Babies are built to be carried. A baby's instincts tell him that he isn't safe on his own, so he cries to be held. His heart rate and breathing are less stable when he's alone. And our milk, unlike the milk of rabbits or other leave-them-in-the-nest mammals, is tailored for frequent nursing - no problem if we're already holding the baby.

Benefits for Premature Babies

A premature baby, especially one with medical problems needing weeks or months of intensive care, is deprived of those final weeks or months in the womb. Instead, baby must grow in an outside womb. The problem is that outside wombs are static. They don't move. Research has shown that a premature baby whose "womb" moves gains weight faster and has fewer stop-breathing (apnea) episodes. Specialists in newborn care have fabricated a variety of moving wombs, such as oscillating waterbeds.

A group of newborn-care specialists in South America made an ingenious discovery. Some hospitals could not afford incubators and all the technology needed to care for prematures. They were forced to use the mother. These preemies were wrapped around their mothers in a sling like wrap, a custom called "packing." To everyone's amazement, the babies thrived as well as, or even better than, the technologically cared-for babies.

The researchers concluded that the close proximity to mother helped the babies thrive. Being close to mother entices baby to feed more frequently. Mother's warmth kept the baby warm; mother's movement calmed the baby, enabling the baby to divert energy from crying to growing. Mother's breathing movements stimulated baby's breathing, so that these babies had fewer stop-breathing episodes. Mother acted as sort of a respiratory pacemaker for baby's breathing.

As soon as a premature baby no longer needs oxygen and intravenous therapy and enters the growing phase, we encourage mothers to wear their babies as much as possible, a practice called "kangaroo care" .

Merino

Merino is a luxurious natural fibre that has a soft and silky tone that is perfect for babies and children. It is a wonder fibre that has evolved over millions of years, and as such is perfect for infants sleepwear. There are many natural attributes that make merino one of the most comfortable fabrics to wear, the most important is that it regulates temperature. Merino is wonderful at keeping baby warm when it is cold and cool when it is hot, and because it’s 100% natural, there is no need for a tog rating like there is on synthetic fibres and it’s got a natural safety element in the built in fire retardants.

Merino is also a huge hit with parents worldwide because it breathes and controls moisture and reduces skin allergies as it does not itch a babies skin. Isn’t it great that something that is natural and back to basics is also available in gorgeous designs for you and your baby!

The Merino we use is Zque certified, for more info see below.

"Just wanted to let you know that I absolutely love the sling. It’s perfect for when we go do our supermarket shopping and going to church on Sunday’s. I get so many comments from people too. Thanks again for a lovely product."

"Just wanted to say how fantastic your sling is. It is great for those unsettled evenings and has been my saviour today after Riley having his injections and just wanting to be cuddled all afternoon (I'm wearing it now). I love the design and its Merino lining, as bubs gets too hot in synthetic materials. And it's so helpful at the supermarket as my capsule takes up most of the trolley space."

"We give ourselves in many ways over many years. Why do we do such things? With the hope in our hearts that we are raising children who will be enjoyed by others; who will grow into socially responsible, fun, vibrant adults; who will, in turn, play their part beautifully, in this adventure we call life."
